All Things Cute
I’ve always considered Valentine’s Day to be the day of cute. Let’s face it, there is absolutely nothing masculine about the holiday, is there? Perhaps that’s why many women enjoy it so much and quite a few men cringe at the thought of it (from what I’ve gathered…)!
For me, I just like the whole girly aspect of it all…the little hearts, the homemade treats, the pinks & reds, the valid excuse to eat chocolate… Could it be it’s the one day per year I have an excuse to do things up in a girl’s sort of way in a house full of boys and men?! Perhaps.
I used a good portion of yesterday thinking of ways to make the after school hours and our evening meal into a little celebration. I started out by simply hanging a heart banner I found on Target’s dollar spot by the kitchen table.
I was going to pick up a Papa Murphy’s heart-shaped pizza and then decided I’d attempt to make my own this year! Homemade crust is so good, anyway! I think it somewhat resembled a heart?! Toppings? We went with olives and cheese! Yes, that’s all…black olives and green olives. Our kids can’t get enough of them!
I don’t usually allow the boys to drink soda, but on special occasions, we bring out some caffeine free rootbeer. This time, with cute paper straws!
For dessert, I scratched the good intention of making cute little elephant cookies and instead visited our local Dairy Queen for a heart-shaped ice cream cake. Nothing too flowery, of course! Had I had gummy worms on hand, I would have put a few on top!
When we were all stuffed with pizza and a week’s worth of sweets, the house got rather quiet and we enjoyed a quiet family evening. I postponed my grand ideas of some sweet Valentine’s Day photos and instead saved that for this morning…
